Current Research Projects

Doctoral Research Project

“Baseline modelling and archaeological investigations into pre-contact (i.e., CE 1792) Tsleil-Waututh members’ diets and environmental stewardship of Burrard Inlet, BC”

Using archaeological, historical, and fisheries research methods, I am building an ecosystem model of Tsleil-Waut (Burrard Inlet, BC) as it would have been before European contact and the following rapid colonization and urbanization of what is now known as Vancouver, BC, Canada. In collaboration with Tsleil-Waututh Nation, and building from Tsleil-Waututh science and traditional ways of knowing, this work supports the Nation’s Cumulative Effects Monitoring Initiative. This is a unique project in that I am building an Ecopath with Ecosim model of Tsleil-Waut using a multi-source approach, including archaeological data from a living First Nation. This research serves Tsleil-Waututh goals and research priorities while leveraging archaeological methods of inquiry.
